A DIGITAL RESOURCE COLLECTION OF TACTILE GRAPHICS FOR GEOSCIENCE – KENT RATAJESKI, UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Geology is a largely visual science, and as such, presents significant accessibility challenges to students with visual disabilities. This program will create a digital resource collection of tactile graphics suitable for introductory geoscience education at the high-school and college levels. Graphics will be chosen with the aim to represent common topics in introductory geoscience courses such as climate change, deserts, Earth’s interior, earthquakes, glaciers plate tectonics and volcanoes among others. Accompanying each image will be related metadata possibly including a description of what is being displayed on the image, a version of the image showing the Braille labels in English, as well as other pertinent information.
