This program highlights the importance of communicating impacts of climate change to fisheries in Nigeria in a native language. Despite the region’s high vulnerability to climate change, local inhabitants that do not read or write English do not fully understand the problem as the transfer of scientific knowledge is not easily converted from English to Yorùbá. Over 6 months, this project will work on teaching locals the specific impacts they can expect, suggest adaptive mechanisms that can be used to mitigate these impacts, and help craft scientific terms in Yorùbá to facilitate further knowledge transfer.
