ENGAGING WESTERN KENTUCKY COMMUNITIES IN STEM – BASSIL EL MASRI, MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY

This project aims to increase participation of high school students in Earth & Environmental Sciences and increase public awareness of the relevance and importance of science.  The components of the project include: 1) A ScienceFest event for high school students from MSU's service region will allow students to share and present their projects in the Earth & environmental sciences during Earth Science Week in October. 2) "Science on the Go" travelling booths at farmer's markets and fairs in the MSU service region to engage with the public. 3) Sponsoring high school student field trips to MSU campus to visit the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences (EES) and experience hands-on learning in the labs. 4) Talks led by the EES faculty and students in local high school, community colleges, and local libraries.
