Hurricane Maria demonstrated the vulnerability of Puerto Rico to natural disasters as well as the value of community-based initiatives. This project seeks to support local communities in organizing their knowledge and promoting awareness of their resilience by giving them a voice and agency in designing their own disaster risk preparedness and mitigation projects. The objective is to develop a set of tools that can be used one community at a time, combining reflection of their own stories with geoscience, mapping, community risk analysis, and teacher trainings to produce disaster risk reduction plans at the community and family levels.
