RISE UP TO RISING TIDES – VICTORIA HERRMANN, THE ARTIC INSTITUTE

Residents of Tutuila, America Samoa have noted that their primary concern about preparing for climate change was not additional hard infrastructure but rather more education and outreach about the basics of climate change and the relationship atmospheric and earth sciences have to cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and biological sciences. This project will create a long-term, sustained climate literacy journey for students and researchers in American Samoa by giving them knowledge they can put into action. It will create a cultural heritage-based, low-tech class curriculum for high school, community college, and adult learning students on earth and atmospheric science.
