SUPPORTING DIVERSE STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN THE JUNEAU ICEFIELD RESEARCH PROGRAM – ALLEN POPE, NATIONAL SNOW AND ICE DATA CENTER, UNITED STATES

The goal of this project is to facilitate participation of under-represented minorities as students in the Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP). JIRP is a rigorous program where students spend eight weeks traversing the Juneau Icefield, learning about Arctic system science and conducting research projects along the way. There are many strong students from diverse backgrounds who request funding support that the program struggled to meet. Through this support, underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities will be able to participate in the 2019 JIRP field season, running June –August 2019.
