SHELL DAY – CAROLINA BASTIDAS, MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, NEW ENGLAND

Shell Day aims to establish a network among community water monitoring organizations by focusing on coastal acidification measurements. The objective is to raise awareness and help to fill important gaps in scientific understanding during a single day of “blitz” monitoring throughout the Northeast U.S. on August 22, 2019. Simultaneous “blitz sampling” integrates local measurements into a regional scale and is an innovative method that allows comparisons across coastal systems. The expectation is that participation in Shell Day will motivate water monitoring organizations to further utilize state and federal resources pertinent to coastal acidification and engage new audiences.
