TAKING DISASTER MANAGEMENT TO SCHOOLS AND IDP CAMPS – PRINCE EMEKA NDIMELE, LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY, NIGERIA

This outreach program focuses on the different types of disasters peculiar to Nigeria, both their causes and management strategies that can be adopted to mitigate their effects. This outreach program will focus on flooding in Abuja, Northern Nigeria, and Lagos, Southern Nigeria, because of its geographical spread, frequency of occurrence and degree of casualty. Students from the program will join the outreach team to visit internally displaced persons (IDPs) on International Day for Disaster Reduction to create awareness among secondary school students on the impacts of disasters and teach IDPs useful disaster management strategies.
