The New York Virtual Volcano Observatory will recreate the experience of exploring a volcano within NYC. The team's objectives are to make the experience of exploration accessible to a broad audience and to engage visitors of all ages in the excitement of geology. The NY Virtual Volcano Observatory (NYVVO) is an interdisciplinary collaboration between NYC-based scientists and artists led by an early career volcanologist (Ben Black, an AGU member) at the City College of New York and an early career filmmaker at Fairfield University (Patrick Brooks). AGU colleagues including volcanologists at Queens College and Lamont-Doerty Earth Observartory have also committed to participation. NYVVO will be located on Governor’s Island, a 172-acre island in New York Harbor that is open to the public between May and October via ferry service from Manhattan and Brooklyn.
