This outreach program will highlight the impacts of climate change to fisheries and the adaptive mechanisms that can be used to mitigate these impacts in the native language of the local population. Continuing ocean acidification will affect sustainability of fisheries, which many coastal communities rely on. Transferring this scientific information is complicated by a lack of exact local interpretations for most scientific terms. This program will identify climate change peculiar to coastal region of Lagos State, Nigeria, and create climate change terms in the Ghanaian language (Akan) to enhance understanding of the subject matter by the Ghanaians who fish in Nigerian coastal waters.
