COMMUNITY OUTREACH AWARENESS ON DISASTER REDUCTION FROM FLOODING ALONG OUEME RIVER – OBINNA ESINWOKE, BENIN HYDROLOGICAL SERVICES AGENCY (BEHSA), BONOU, OUEME DISTRICT, REPUBLIC OF BENIN

Bonou suffers from constant flooding due to its proximity to the Oueme River. To mitigate the damage from natural hazards such as floods, at-risk communities must be aware of the dangers, protective measures, and possible preventative measures. This outreach program will conduct training workshops on community hazard identification and mapping focusing on flooding as well as training activities on community physical planning and media sensitization activities. In addition, the National Disaster Management Agency (NMDA) will introduce schoolchildren to the idea of disaster risk reduction, discuss environmental conservation and train them to identify community hotspots to flooding, factors and consequences.
