SEISMOGRAMS DIGITIZATION BY HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS – MIAKI ISHII, HARVARD UNIVERSITY

Traditional recordings using seismometers, from the 1800s through the mid to late 1980s, are the basis for the field of seismology but are currently in analog form, rendering them unusable for modern analyses. This project will teach Japanese high-school students to use a digitization software, DigitSeis, developed at Harvard University, to process recorded seismograms. The project will run for one year and hopes to engage local Japanese seismologists and educators in the training and teaching of these students.
